Our final guests stayed with us this last weekend. Elder and Sister Bell came up on the train from Athens on Saturday, spoke in our sacrament meeting Sunday and went to Philipi and Kavala with us on Monday. This is a picture of a series of archways in Philipi, with the ampitheater in the background.

These slabs of rock are the remains of the old Roman highway that went from Rome to Constantinople. It dates back to around 300 B.C. The apostle Paul very likely traveled this very road. Elder and Sister Bell--following in his footsteps!

Another view of the road.

Just a big terra cotta pot among the ruins. There was no one to tell us what they stored in them, but this one appeared to have a lid.

The mosaic tile floor which was once enclosed in an octogonal church that housed a tomb for an important priest.

Elder Johnson and Elder Bell giving us a cheer inside the Philipi ampitheater.

Sister Bell and Sister Johnson with our two new maties from Australia. We ran into these two fascinating guys at Amphipoli. They were about 5 weeks into a several-month long ride which began in Dubai and will end in Norway. So far, they said the nicest people and the best food were in Iran. They also paid 6 cents a liter for gas in Iran!

We wanted you to get some perspective on how big this lion is! He once guarded the tomb of one of Alexander the Great's generals. They have built a new pedestal for him and he overlooks the Strymonas River. The ruins of Amfipolis are on the way to Kavala.

Another view of the lion with Sister and Elder Bell in front.

We took the elders to Drama to teach a young man last week. We saw acres and acres of sunflowers. They were SO pretty. We aren't sure if they grow them for vegetable oil or what.

The little city of Drama had a store just for me, so I couldn't resist the photo. (Sorry!) It was closed for mesi meri, but the little cotton jacket in the window was 85 euros, so it was probably a little high-end for us anyway.

Drama has a lovely city park with ponds, waterfalls, and a stream running through it that's full of ducks and fish. This little restaurant is on the edge of the park and the geraniums were beautiful!

Our last Sunday with Liana. This is in front of the front door of the church. She e-mailed us and told us that her first Sunday home she went to a meeting in Yerevan and Elder Richard Scott was their visiting authority. Amazing!

Sister Jung from Germany, Liana, Sister Lelle from Connecticut and Manuela Tanto, a member of the Branch from Albania.
